December 2011 Senior Engineering Positions

Are you looking for a new challenge in 2012? Semple & McKillop have vacancies for highly competent Senior Mechanical Design Engineer(s) and Senior Electrical Design Engineer(s).

The post holder(s) shall work as part of the team structure to perform lead duties on projects, and as necessary, deliver design and project management support from initial concept planning through to design and commissioning. S/he shall have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to exceed client expectations.

The post holder(s) shall be flexible and be able to support the Company in achieving their ambitious plans to further extend into new markets across the UK and overseas.

November 2011 Graduate Electrical Engineer

Semple & McKillop wish to appoint a Graduate Electrical Engineer to join their team in the Belfast office. This position shall suit an ambitious, motivated and professional individual.

Working under the direct supervision of a Senior Chartered Engineer, the post holder shall support the delivery of a range of projects across the built environment. In the first 2 years, s/he will also play an active role in the delivery of an exciting European Research & Development project.

November 2011 Five Major School Projects Awarded

Semple & McKillop are delighted to have been successful in competitive tendering exercises to secure 5 major school projects for the Department of Education & Skills (DoES).

As M&E Consultants the scope of works includes new school accommodation and extension and refurbishment of existing buildings. This latest news further establishes Semple & McKillop as a leading building services consultant within the education sector.

Building on our portfolio of minor works within the education sector, Semple & McKillop have also successfully completed another bundle of works under the DoES Summer Works Scheme programme. To date the contract value of such schemes, completed since 2004, totals in excess of €27M across more than 75 schools.

September 2011 Power on for Game of Thrones

Semple & McKillop recently completed a upgradePaint Hall of the High Voltage Infrastructure to the Paint Hall at Titanic Quarter in time for the commencement of filming of the 2nd series of HBO’s Game of Thrones.

The project saw the installation of new High Voltage Switchgear and the refurbishment and re-commissioning of existing infrastructure to accommodate an increased electrical supply to the Paint Hall which is now Northern Ireland’s premier film studio location.

The work was designed, tendered and installed within an extremely short period of time and was delivered through successful collaboration with Northern Ireland Screen and Titanic Quarter in time to allow the cameras to start rolling.

July 2011 CEng X 4, Professional Bodies Recognise Staff Excellence

Semple & McKillop are delighted to report that no less than 4 employees have applied and been awarded Chartered status by their professional body within the last 3 months.

Commenting on the news, Seamus McKillop, Managing Director said, ‘On behalf of all staff, we offer our congratulations to Dan, Declan, Sile and Stephen on this personal achievement and milestone. We are delighted their professional bodies have recognised their engineering and personal competencies and awarded this hallmark of quality and excellence in the engineering profession.’

Having completed a Student Placement with Semple & McKillop, Dan Gilchrist was employed as a Graduate Engineer in 2001. Dan is Chartered with the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).

Declan Smyth, Stephen Mulholland and Sile O’Connor have been collectively employed with Semple & McKillop for 22 years. They are each Chartered with Engineers Ireland (IEI).

In November 2010, Seamus McKillop became a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).

June 2011 Welcome on Board

Semple & McKillop welcome two new employees to the Company! As a highly experienced administrator Tara Cummings will act as first point of contact for our clients and services within our Belfast Office.

Richard Tsang, who is studying a MEng in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ulster, joins our Student Placement Programme. This programme is designed to cover engineering skills development, design principals, specialist software applications in energy modelling and an appreciation of team dynamics.

Two very talented students, John Hughes and Shane Quinn, are the latest recruits to have successfully completed this programme gaining valuable experience with us over the last 12 months.

We wish them well and thanks as they return to complete their Final Year in September.

March 2011 Student Placement Programme

This position is now closed... Once again Semple & McKillop were seeking to appointa high calibre student who has an interest in Building Services Engineering for a 1 year placement starting in the summer of 2011.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with interest in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Low Carbon and Environmental Consultancy and Specialist Technical Services.

Testament to our placement programme is the several previous placement students who are now permanent members of staff.

January 2011 Building New Markets

This month, Seamus McKillop, Managing Director, Semple McKillop is travelling to Kurdistan as part of an Invest Northern Ireland trade mission.

During the week long visit, Seamus will be meeting community leaders in Kurdistan's key business centre of Erbil. This region is now regarded as the most secure and stable in the Middle East and is investing extensively in rebuilding its infrastructure, hospitals, schools, residential accommodation and transport facilities.

Prior to the trip, Seamus McKillop, said: “This trade mission comes at an opportune time for us as we implement our strategy for continued growth and development. As an innovative and flexible company with staff who are highly qualified and experienced, we are well placed to explore potential business opportunities in the Middle East.”

“Semple & McKillop are currently part of a multi-national design team delivering a £5M project in Al Hilla, Iraq. This Meat Primary Processing Plant is being delivered on programme and due for completion in May this year.”

“Having met last year with representatives of the Kurdistan Regional Authority, we were impressed by this new and rapidly growing market. Experts have suggested that the Kurdistan economy will grow by almost eight per cent this year.”
