September 2014 Design Complete on Landmark GPO Building

Semple & McKillop are the appointed M&E Consultants at the GPO Building, the headquarters of the Irish postal service, on O'Connell Street, Dublin. The design stage is now complete on this new build and refurbishment.

The new facility shall be constructed in the existing East Courtyard behind the public post office area and features a new multi-media exhibition experience and an external landscaped gallery area.

When opened, public access will be extended to the GPO's impressive inner courtyard for the first time.

Our M&E services design strategy has ensured the new services are integrated within the GPO restricted building envelope. It has also been important to conceal and integrate services discreetly to protect the build integrity and ornate features of one of Ireland’s most famous landmarks.

Designed by leading architect Francis Johnston, the GPO was completed as a headquarters for the Irish Post Office in 1818. The GPO will continue to operate as An Post's headquarters as well as the country's flagship post office.  Construction works commenced late summer 2014 with project completion due February 2016.

August 2014 Energy Savings on Target

Our first post implementation evaluation indicates calculated savings and benefits are on target for a heating infrastructure upgrade at Breifne College, Cavan.

Analysis to date demonstrate that the predicted savings of over €8,000 per annum from conversion from oil to gas shall be achieved. This represents a payback of less than two years. Furthermore, there will be reduced carbon output and maintenance costs.

Semple & McKillop are carrying out similar type commissions across schools in Ireland as part of the Summer Works Programme 2014. Savings as those evident at Breifne College are predicted for each of these schools.

If you would like to find out more information on such energy efficient solutions, please contact our office.

Semple & McKillop are also the appointed consultants on a €3.3M stand-alone extension with a Special Education Needs Unit at Breifne College. This is one of a number of recent commissions valued at over €44M secured as part of the DoES Large Schools Framework.
