June 2017 Superman Returns...

The highly specialised and acclaimed North Foreshore Film Studio has been handed over to Warner for production to begin on a new television Superman prequel. ‘KRYPTON’ has been confirmed as the first production to be housed in this £20m development set on an eight-acre site adjacent to Belfast Lough.

This new highly specialised, purpose built development includes a 66,000sq ft film studio and sound stage, along with 2 No 23,000sq ft workshops and 32,000sq ft production space to accommodate art departments, dressing rooms and wardrobe functions.

Semple & McKillop were appointed by Belfast Harbour Commissioners and responsible for the mechanical, electrical and sustainable design services and specialist services design necessary to accommodate the full spectrum of film production needs for this large-scale development.

In 2012 Semple & McKillop completed the Paint Hall Film Studio in Titanic Quarter which is best known for being the production and filming hub for the highly popular and successful HBO series Game of Thrones.

May 2017 A Drama is Building...

Building work has begun on a new £19M development for Mountview Performing Arts at Peckham, South London, fictional home of those lovable rogues Del Boy and Trotter. Mountview is a leading UK drama school with a long-standing and international reputation.

Accommodation shall include a public foyer with café bar, 200-seat main auditorium, 80-seat studio theatre, workshops and rooftop restaurant/bar with views across the London skyline. The training facilities include rehearsal studios, performance studios, music practice rooms, TV studios and a radio suite. There are further spaces for a retail unit and a 200m2 rehearsal studio for commercial hire.

Semple & McKillop are appointed by Dowds Group with Gilbert Ash as the main contractor. We are responsible for the mechanical, electrical and sustainable design services.

March 2017 A Grand Appointment...

Semple & McKillop are delighted to be appointed as the Mechanical and Electrical Consultants on the significant restoration and refurbishment of the Grand Opera House, Belfast, as a member of the Consarc Design Team.

The proposed works shall include refurbishment to the Auditorium and Shakespeare Room, improved accessibility facilities, refurbishment to the Act 2 Building and the Baby Grand Room.

The Grand Opera House is Northern Ireland's premier theatre presenting an outstanding programme of drama, dance, opera, comedy, musicals and family shows since 1895. In 1974 the Grand Opera House became the first listed building in Northern Ireland

The Student Programme is open for those requiring placement/internship for 12 months though applications shall be considered for those requiring 6-8 months. The Graduate Engineers shall have a degree, or higher level in Building Services, Electrical, Mechanical or relevant engineering degree; preferential consideration will be given to those with an Electrical qualification or interest.
