Building Homes in South Africa
Conor Casey, Building Services Engineer with Semple & McKillop once again participated in the Niall Mellon Township Trust ‘Building Blitz’. Conor spent a week with over 950 volunteers building 200 homes in South Africa.
This year Conor was working in the impoverished township Wallacedene, located outside Cape Town which has a population of approx 21,000. Speaking at a beneficiary handover Niall Mellon said, “The week has been a phenomenal success for the Trust despite the torrential rain. I am proud of the way our volunteers braved the elements and with great determination completed the task in hand.”
Having participated in the programme last year, Conor was able to see the impact of the Niall Mellon Township Trust and the significant difference the Trust makes to many disadvantaged families providing quality accommodation and community facilities. The Niall Mellon Township Trust was established in 2002 with the aim to build quality social housing for impoverished families living in shacks in the townships of South Africa.
