Designing Services for Innovative Healthcare Systems
Semple & McKillop have successfully handed over a new High Dependency Unit at Daisy Hill Hospital. This is one of the latest commissions for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust that Semple & McKillop have been appointed as mechanical and electrical consulting engineers.
The facility, which was officially opened by Mr Poots, Health Minister, is the first in the UK to use a robot which allows intensive care specialists from one hospital to remotely assess patients in another. The use of new technology, in the form of the telepresence robot, is at the cutting edge of innovation in our health service.
This extensive and comprehensive refurbishment includes 10 beds which shall be used for treating the most acutely ill patients. Services designed included medical gas services, vacuum systems, modification of existing ventilation system and the design of a turnkey renal dialysis installation including reverse osmosis unit. A specialist backup uninterruptable power supply unit was designed and installed with medical services innovatively cased within a specialised vertical trunking systems.
