Semple & McKillop are delighted to be are part of a Europe wide research and development consortia into energy efficient lighting. This latest development is part of our strategy to position ourselves as leaders in innovative design and technology applications.

Seamus McKillop, Managing Director has attended meetings in Brussels and Rome with our European partners. Organisations involved include TOM, a spin-off company from Queen’s University, the Southern Health and Social Care Trust with European partners from Italy, Belgium, Greece and Romania.

The purpose of the research project, EDISON, is to demonstrate that a DC powered smart lighting system can improve energy efficiency, reduce CO2 emissions and encourage the use of small-scale renewable energy sources in European public buildings such as schools, museums, administrative offices and hospitals.

Our role over the next 2 years will be to set up the pilot projects in test locations and to manage and monitor the findings resultant from the pilot tests. The partners will review outcomes during the pilot studies and refine the tests to create the maximum opportunity for energy savings and shared learning. The final stage of the project will involve detailed evaluation of the project outcomes with all European partners and the possible development of a commercial platform which can be implemented at scale, across public sector buildings to generate significant energy reductions on light usage.
