Semple & McKillop celebrate Engineers Week. Senior mechanical engineer, Sile O’Connor organised a ‘Women in Engineering’ event to celebrate ‘Engineers Week’. The event which was organised with the assistance of Dundalk Institute of Technology and Engineers Ireland North East committee was primarily aimed at female second level students who are interested in exploring the benefits of engineering as a career choice.

The event provided an opportunity to learn first‐hand about the different branches of engineering and the various career options that are open to them. Students heard from a panel of role model female engineers who provided information on their various careers, their own experiences in engineering, what their workplace environment was like and addressed some of the preconception regarding females working in the engineering profession. There was also an opportunity for students to participate in a hands‐on interactive workshop demonstrating some of the problem-solving activities that engineers carry out
